Mullen It Over – October 2026

The Great Pumpkin might be on the way, but the great finds are already here at Mullen! As Fall settles in, there’s plenty to discover around the library. Stop by, take a look around, and see what’s gourd this season!

A Few Tricks for Your Research (No Rocks)
Research doesn’t have to feel like waiting all night in a pumpkin patch. This month’s digital scholarship workshops offer practical tools to make the work a little easier.

  • Manage Your Citations with Zotero (Oct 9, 12-1p) Get a handle on your sources with a free tool for organizing research and creating citations and bibliographies. You’ll also explore AI tools and plugins that can expand your Zotero workflow.
  • Text Analysis with AntConc (Oct 30, 12-1p) Learn to use AntConc to search and analyze large collections of text, uncover patterns, and explore new AI features — no coding experience required.

Both workshops are led by Kevin Gunn, Coordinator of Digital Scholarship. Register through our Events page.

Things That Go Bump in the Library
Studying can be scary enough without unexpected noise. Remember to match your volume to your surroundings: conversation is welcome on the Second Floor, while the Third Floor is reserved for silent study. Taking a call or watching something with sound? Find an appropriate spot or grab your headphones so everyone can study in peace.

Good Grief! Is That Overdue?
Don’t let a due date sneak up on you. Check your My Library Account to see what you have borrowed, keep track of due dates, renew eligible materials, and review your requests. One less thing to say “good grief” about.

Filipino American Heritage
Celebrate Filipino American History Month with stories, histories, and perspectives from Filipino and Filipino American writers. Explore these selections from our collection and find something to add to your reading list.

Take a Look Around, Charlie Brown
There’s plenty to see around Mullen this October. Take a walk through the library and see what’s on display.

  • Panels With Purpose — Stop by the First Floor Lobby to explore graphic novels from Mullen’s collection.
  • Devotion in Print: Catholic Women and Their Books, 1500-1800 — Visit the May Gallery for an exhibit curated by Rare Books exploring the roles of Catholic women in transforming the written and printed word in the early modern era.
  • Next Stop: Brookland-CUA — Head to the Second Floor for a look back at Metro history through items from the University Archives, marking 50 years since Metro first opened its doors to our community.

Don’t Forget Your Blanket
Still waiting for the Great Pumpkin? You might as well have something to watch. Browse our DVD collection at the Circulation Desk with a binder of titles and themed collections to help you find something worth watching. No DVD player? No problem. Mullen also offers streaming movies through Kanopy and Swank. Just add popcorn.
